What each level covers
- Long division: easy is 2 or 3 digits ÷ 1 digit with no remainder; medium is up to 4 digits ÷ 1 digit, often with a remainder; hard is up to 5 digits ÷ 2 digits.
- Fractions: easy is adding and subtracting with the same denominator; medium adds, subtracts and multiplies with different denominators; hard uses mixed numbers with all four operations.
- Percentages: easy is finding a percentage of a number; medium adds “what percent?” and increasing or decreasing by a percentage; hard is percentage change and finding the whole from a part.
- Fractions, decimals and percents: changing between the three, with halves, quarters, fifths and tenths at easy, eighths and twentieths at medium, and repeating decimals such as 0.1(6) = 1/6 at hard.
- GCF and LCM: two numbers up to about 36 at easy and up to 135 at medium; hard uses three numbers.
- Prime factors: writing a number as a product of primes with powers (360 = 2³ × 3² × 5), up to 120 at easy, 1,000 at medium and 10,000 at hard.
- Ratios: easy is simplifying a ratio; medium simplifies ratios of two or three numbers and shares an amount in a ratio; hard shares in two or three parts and finds the missing number in a proportion.
On the new topics, each answer in the key opens the calculator with that problem filled in, so students can see every step: GCF, LCM, prime factorization, decimal to fraction and ratios.
Students can practise the first three topics online, with hints and instant checking: long division, fractions and percentages. For a quick warm-up, try the daily math puzzle. More ideas are on the page for teachers.
