How to play

  1. Work out each problem on paper or in your head, type the answer and press Check.
  2. You have two tries. A green square means right first time, yellow right at the second try, red missed.
  3. After each problem, See how it’s done plays the worked solution, step by step.
  4. When you finish, share your squares and time. They don’t give away the answers.

A new puzzle starts at midnight where you are. The timer only runs while the page is open. Your progress, streak and stats are saved in this browser only; nothing is sent to us.

How to write your answers

  • Percentages: just the number, like 45 or 12.5 (the % sign is optional). Use a minus sign for a decrease.
  • Long division: a whole number, or with a remainder like 14 R 2.
  • Fractions: in simplest form, like 7/12 or the mixed number 1 7/12.

For teachers and parents

The puzzle makes a quick warm-up at the start of a lesson: everyone gets the same five problems, and the worked solutions have a full-screen mode for projectors. For more of one kind, try percentage practice, long division practice or fraction practice.
